As America gears up for the swearing-in ceremony of Barack Obama as US president tonight, some of Delhi’s pubs and bars are putting up large screens and offering special deals to acknowledge this historic celebration. Despite it being a Tuesday night,Ai at MGF Mall in Saket is confident that a large expat crowd will show up to watch Obama take oath. Besides the screens and American flags as decor,ai has flown down New York-based DJ Aaron James, who’s played alongside artists like Elton John,Kid Rock and John Digweed in the US. James was actively involved in the Rock The Vote campaign in America,a non partisan organisation that encourages the youth to vote through music. “Being part of Rock The Vote was very special and I’m happy to be in India on this momentous day the world has been waiting for,” said James. Meanwhile, the American Embassy isn’t hosting any official celebration but American Club in Chanakya Puri is having a small party for members only. For the rest of us,the action begins at 10:30 pm tonight. (EFS)
