A six-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her 14-year-old neighbour in Northeast Delhi’s Seemapuri area on Tuesday evening. The accused, who works as a labourer in the area, allegedly went to the victim’s house when her parents were away. He asked the girl to come out and play with him. On the pretext of taking her out to play,he took her to a secluded place in the area, police said.

A senior police officer said the accused took her to an empty plot, raped her and fled. The girl fell unconscious when he committed the crime.

After regaining consciousness, the girl went home at night. “When her parents reached home, they found her crying. The girl did not tell them anything that night. On Monday morning, she narrated the incident to her mother, who approached the police. A medical examination of the girl was conducted at GTB hospital, which confirmed rape. A case has been registered,” the officer said.

After the girl identified the accused,he was detained from his house. Initially, the accused tried to mislead the police by saying that he was at his friend’s house the previous evening but later confessed to the crime, police said.

“He will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board. Further investigation is underway,” the officer said.
