A video said to be showing a schoolboy being bullied and slapped by his teacher at a government school in Gokalpur in the city has shocked parents, who are demanding strict action against him. A police case has also been registered against the teacher for allegedly assaulting the Class IX student.

In the footage, which has gone viral on WhatsApp, the teacher is reportedly seen hurling abuses and repeatedly slapping the teenager, as he orders him out of the classroom. The video was reportedly shot by a student on his cellphone, though phones are banned within the school premises.

The boy’s father, Rai Chaudhry, told The Indian Express that on April 29, his son was supposed to appear for his Class IX social studies exam, but “they kept shifting him from one classroom to another”. He was then told to sit in an isolated room, where the teacher in question allegedly abused him verbally and asked him to remove his pants, the father alleged.

“Then on Saturday again the teacher caught hold of my son, slapping him several times in the face and on the back. A student present made a video-recording of the episode. It is then that we got to know about the whole incident,” Chaudhry said.

Taking note of the incident, the Education department has formed a committee to look into the matter. “We have formed a committee to conduct an inquiry. We hope to take action in the case soon,” Vimlesh Kumari, an official at the Directorate of Education, said.

“A case has been registered against the said teacher on the basis of the complaint filed by the boy’s parents. No one has been arrested yet, however,” a senior police officer said.
