When it started in 1940 in Pune, the Hand Made Paper Institute’s main focus was to promote its paper amongst the rank and file of the country. It opened a new chapter with the launch of its showroom and art gallery,Papertells. While the open air art gallery waits for its first exhibition to be held on June 1,the showroom tells a different story. Its dark wood panelled floor complements the walls and the ceiling that lives up to the company name, quite literally. Made from paper pulp, the surfaces are a vivid display portal. Jeetendra Sonar, director,Papertells, says,“We decided to launch the showroom and art gallery to have manufacturing, retailing, showcasing and promotion of products all under one roof.” There are over 450 types of paper, handmade diaries, photo frames, idols as well as pen stands on display. While the interiors are definitely the talking point for the showroom, the director is most excited about the work that will be done at the art gallery in the coming months.
