A day after a BA first-year student at JNU alleged that she was molested,harassed and assaulted by her senior,who reportedly forced her to be in a relationship with him,the accused was barred from the University for the next ten years.
JNU Spokesperson Poonam Kudaisya said Abhinandan Verma has been barred from the university campus for the next 10 years. He has been barred from taking any JNU examination and is not allowed to take admission to any course in the university for the next 10 years. Anyone found sheltering him would also invite disciplinary action, she said.
The incident was reported from the School of Language,Literature and Culture Studies in JNU on Sunday.
The accused was also arrested and a case of molestation filed against him. The girl,in her complaint,said Verma,a native of Bihar,forced her to be in a relationship with him and after she refused,he started to harass her and also threatened to kill her.
She said he used to get very aggressive whenever she tried to avoid him and often shouted at her and abused her in public. On Sunday,he walked up to her,requesting her to talk to him for five minutes and later started abusing her. He reportedly slapped her on campus and threatened to kill her.
