Stone crushers to burning leaves — the heat is on

The Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HPCB) on Tuesday issued directions to its Regional Officers (ROs) in the NCR, detailing measures to be taken to reduce pollution levels in areas under their jurisdiction.

The ROs were directed to ensure that all stone crushers and brick kilns, not operating at the moment, are not allowed to operate until November 15.

In addition, no new brick kilns can operate during this period. The regional officers were also directed to ensure that all construction and demolition work is stopped until November 15.

Meanwhile, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has warned of “strictest possible action” against burning of garbage and leaves on roads, and in parks.

The corporation issued directions to its staff in this regard.

The North corporation has diverted 50 per cent of its sanitation staff to carry out field duties and check construction and demolition activity in the capital.
