A police officer died in a road accident after the car he was driving was hit by a dumper on Wednesday night while he was on his way to Sector-49,Noida,to make an arrest. Police said Sanjay Bajpai (45) was the station house officer (SHO) of Kasna police station,Greater Noida.
According to police,Bajpai,along with two constables,had left the station in a Scorpio to conduct a raid. When the police team reached Amrapali crossing,they found an Indigo which had been abandoned. Its keys were still inside. Bajpai decided to take the car to a nearby police station,so that the owner could be traced, a senior police officer said.
Police said Bajpai drove the Indigo,while the constables followed him in the other car. In Sector 71,a speeding dumper,which was trying to overtake,hit the Indigo from the back. The driver lost control over the dumper and hit Bajpais car. The car collided with the divider and overturned several times, the officer said.
While the dumper driver fled,constables in the other car called for assistance. Bajpai was rushed to Fortis hospital,where he was declared brought dead on arrival.
Superintendent of Police (rural) Brijesh Kumar said,We have lodged an FIR in the Sector-49 police station.
Bajpais body was sent for post-mortem examination on Thursday morning,following which he was given ceremonial honours at Police Lines at Surajpur.
According to sources in the district hospital,Noida,there were seven accidents in Noida in the past 24 hours,which resulted in three deaths.
Delhi Police constable killed in Gurgaon mishap
A head constable of the Delhi Police died in a hit-and-run accident in Gurgaon on Thursday morning. According to police,Head Constable Ashok Kumar (47),posted at Malviya Nagar police station,was returning home from Delhi. At 1.45 am,when Kumar was near Signature tower,a speeding vehicle hit his motorbike from the back. His bike skid and he fell off. Kumar was taken to the Civil hospital. After 15 minutes,he was declared dead. He died of excessive bleeding from a head injury (right side of his head), a senior officer said. Police said a case of negligent driving under has been registered.
