According to police, Omkar Singh was issued an MHA parking sticker by the Ministry of Agriculture in 2014, since he had to visit the ministry for handing over of files and other work.
“The sticker was valid from January 1, 2014 to December 31, 2014. After it expired, he did not return it. Instead, he gave it to his son, Mohit, who pasted it on his car. It is the same car in which the woman was allegedly raped by Mohit’s driver on December 14,” a police officer said. DCP (south district) Ishwar Singh said a complaint was received from an official in the Ministry of Agriculture regarding misuse of the parking label entrusted to Omkar Singh.
“Based on the complaint, a case under IPC sections 406 and 34 was registered at South Campus police station. Singh was arrested on Saturday and was produced before a Delhi court, which granted him bail on a bond of Rs 25,000,” the officer said. The 19-year-old woman was allegedly raped by the driver, Avneesh, after she hailed his car, which was illegally operating as a commercial vehicle. The driver has been arrested.
