A 25-year-old candidate for the MCD polls contesting from Sector 11,Rohini,was stabbed, allegedly by two men on Thursday morning. The candidate,Sunil Kumar, suffered injuries on his back and right hand.

Police said the motive did not seem to be political rivalry. The incident was reported a day after Jai Prakash,a BJP worker, was stabbed to death, allegedly by the sitting councillor from the party.

Police said the motive could be personal rivalry, and the attack had nothing to do with the polls. Speaking to Newsline,Kumar said he was on his way to a barber shop when two men came from behind and attacked him. “Both had knives, one of them came near me and stabbed me on my lower back. As I resisted, the other person tried to attack me on my neck. I managed to twist their arms and save myself. Before I could shout for help, they ran. I then called the police control room.”

“Kumar was taken to a nearby hospital and he is out of danger. We have registered a case. The victim told us that the accused are not known to him…. It appears to be a case of personal enmity. We are trying to identify, arrest the assailants,” said a police official.
