Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Sunday attacked the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for ineffective civic governance, while launching her partys campaign for the municipal elections at a rally in East Delhi.
Dikshit said the civic agency, which is at present led by the BJP,has failed to provide sufficient parking spaces and frame policies to redevelop areas as provided by the Master Plan of Delhi. Areas like Old Delhi,Sadar Bazaar and Karol Bagh had to be redeveloped, but the MCD has failed in doing so, Dikshit said to a gathering in Gandhi Nagar.
Cabinet ministers A K Walia and Arvinder Singh Lovely, along with Congress parliamentarians from East Delhi,Sandeep Dikshit, and Northeast Delhi,Jai Prakash Agarwal, were among those present at the rally.
Dikshit exuded confidence that the trifurcation of MCD,brought about by her government, would help deliver better civic services.
MCD under BJP has failed to provide basic facilities. At present, only one commissioner manages the whole city, which is difficult. But with trifurcation of MCD,South,East and North will get a commissioner each, making the functioning smooth, she said.
