The Delhi government Friday said it is examining a proposal to shut schools from January 1 to 15, when the odd-even formula for private vehicles will be tried out in the city to control rising pollution levels.
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said the government has received a proposal to close schools during the trial period. “We have received a proposal to shut schools (between January 1 and 15). We are considering the proposal and if needed, the government will announce a holiday for all schools,” said Sisodia.
The minister said the Delhi government was talking to various school authorities to introduce better awareness programmes for students to educate them about rising pollution levels. “Principals and teachers have to conduct a drive to make students aware of the sudden increase in pollution levels. Children are the biggest stakeholders, as 26 lakh students are studying in schools and the policy of odd-even formula will be implemented with their involvement,” added the deputy chief minister.
