Robber escapes custody after court hearing

A man involved in over 12 cases of robbery and murder escaped police custody after an appearance at a Rohini court on Saturday morning,police said.

A man involved in over 12 cases of robbery and murder escaped police custody after an appearance at a Rohini court on Saturday morning,police said.

The accused,Neeraj Pal,had several cases registered against him in Outer Delhi and Northwest Delhi.

Police said the court of an Additional Sessions Judge was set to pronounce judgement on a robbery case in Begumpur in 2011,on Saturday.

Neeraj was accompanied by two others — Rohit and Ranjit Bihari,both of whom were involved in the Begumpur robbery,police said.

After his court appearance,police were escorting Neeraj back to the lock in court when he excused himself to go to the washroom. Before the police could react,he pushed the personnel and fled,police said. A case has been registered at the Prashant Vihar police station.

Satnarain Sharma,secretary of the Rohini Court Bar Association said,“There should be an alarm system to ensure better security.”
