Debutant filmmaker Amit Kumar’s gritty action-thriller Monsoon Shootout will be screened at the 66th Cannes Film Festival in France,to be held between May 15-26. The 1-hour 22-minute film will be screened in the Out of Competition section of the festival and stars actors Nawazuddin Siddique,Onkar Das Manikpuri,and Vijay Verma. Set against Mumbai’s urban landscape,the film captures the tough decisions a cop faces when he corners a gangster in a deserted alley. It presents three scenarios for the Mumbai cop as he challenges his conscience of either arresting or shooting the gangster. This is Kumar’s debut Hindi feature film. In 2003,he directed a 17-minute short,Bypass. Monsoon Shootout is yet to be released in India.
