After the Congress’s defeat in the recently held municipal polls,Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Friday asked party MLAs to start connecting with people once again, blaming them of losing “touch with grassroots”. Dikshit told party legislators to win back the common man’s support.

After a Congress Legislature Party meeting held on Friday, where Dikshit herself was criticised for her “style of functioning” and “inaccessibility”,Dikshit said,“I asked the legislators to reach out to people and to take the schemes and achievements of our government to the masses. I have also told them to get ensure that all approved schemes are promptly implemented in their respective areas.” “I asked them to attend all meetings and also the Bhagidari workshops organised to improve people’s participation in the development of their areas.”

Several MLAs complained that senior officials often refused to listen to them which delayed implementation of schemes.

A few MLAs lauded the government’s decision to cut VAT on the hiked petrol price. They also asked for the proposed five per cent VAT on CNG to be withdrawn.
