Ten days after a four-year-old girl was allegedly raped and killed in northwest Delhi’s Keshav Puram area, police have arrested a 25-year-old in connection with the crime from his friend’s house in Bawana. Police said the accused, identified as Amarjeet alias Chup Ram, was a regular visitor at the victim’s house. He used to work as a driver for a mill in Lawrence Road in Keshav Puram. Police said he has a four-year-old daughter.
On November 20, the victim went missing around 8 pm. After a 10-hour search operation, her body was found near a railway track near her house.

“The accused and the victim’s father knew each other, which is why girl did not raise an alarm as stated by the family members. On Sunday evening, moments after consuming liquor with the father of the victim, the accused saw the child playing near the house and lured her with toffee and asked her to come with him. He then took the child to a secluded corner near the railway quarters and raped her. When the victim started screaming, he killed her,” said a senior police officer.
Police said after committing the crime, he went back home for dinner and even joined the search party for a brief period. Soon after, he fled.
The accused hails from Begusarai in Bihar and had come to the capital four years ago. His wife and child live in Begusarai.
“Initially, he was just a suspect as he had absconded and switched off his phone. After a few days, he switched his phone on so we traced him and arrested him from his friend’s house in Bawana Industrial area. They had no knowledge that he had committed the crime,” said the senior police officer.
