In yet another incident of violence at Tihar Jail, four inmates of Central Jail No 3 allegedly attacked a 20-year-old inmate with a sharp-edged weapon. The inmates were allegedly demanding money from the victim.
The administration has initiated an inquiry into the incident and is looking into how the inmates got hold of the weapon. It is also investigating if insiders had a role to play.
The victim has been identified as Raman, lodged in Tihar in connection with a rape case.
Additional Inspector-General (prisons) Mukesh Prasad said the incident occurred Sunday morning. Raman was waylaid by four inmates — Tridev, Nanhiya, Vijay and Pawan. “They started to abuse and beat him. They then attacked him with the weapon. When other inmates rushed out hearing the commotion, the four inmates slashed themselves as well,” said the sources.
“The victims were taken to Central Hospital in Tihar Jail, from where they were shifted to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital,” added the sources.
