After Barapullah phase-III, the Public Works Department (PWD) is now working on a plan for construction of phase-IV of the elevated corridor. The project, officials claim, is aimed at not only decongesting AIIMS, but also ensuring faster connectivity to the airport for residents of East Delhi.

The project plan was discussed by the PWD with the Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung, while submitting a presentation on the Barapullah phase-III in November. Sources claimed that the

L-G asked the department to begin work on the plan immediately and try to complete the construction of phase-IV along with phase-III in December 2017.

A senior PWD official said, “We had been contemplating construction of the corridor for a while. But after the L-G expressed interest in the project, we fast-tracked the process. For East Delhi residents, this will be an asset since it will reduce the travel time to the airport. We are in the process of issuing bids for appointment of a consultant who will conduct a feasibility study. The bids should be floated by next month.”
