Police bust fake licences,birth certificates racket,two arrested

The Crime Branch of Delhi Police on Saturday arrested two persons for allegedly supplying fake driving licences and birth certificates to over 1500 people.

The Crime Branch of Delhi Police on Saturday arrested two persons for allegedly supplying fake driving licences and birth certificates to over 1500 people. Police also recovered 21 fake driving licenses,31 fake stamps of several state transport authorities and hologram stickers.

Babu Ram (29) and Ram Singh (37) were arrested after police conducted two separate raids to nab them.

“We received a tip off that one Babu Ram and his associates,who were involved in selling fake driving licences and birth certificates,would go to the T-Point in Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar for a deal. A team was constituted and a constable was sent in as a decoy customer,” Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav said.

He said the constable asked the accused for a driving licence. Babu Ram struck the deal to make him with a fake driving licence for Rs 2,000 and took the constable’s photograph.

After about an hour,he returned with a fake driving licence. Once he had the fake licence,the constable signalled the police team and the accused was arrested,police said.

“Eight other fake driving licences of different transport authorities and a fake birth certificate was recovered from him,” Yadav said.

During questioning Babu Ram told police that he had been involved in the business of supplying fake licences and birth certificates for over a year. Ram Singh,Akram,Ashok and Dharamveer were some of his associates,police said.

“He also told police that he used to purchase blank licence cards from Dharamveer and ask Ram Singh and Akram to prepare them,” Yadav said.

Based on information provided by Babu Ram,his associate Ram Singh was arrested after a raid at his hideout in Siraspur.

Twelve fake driving licences,several blank licence cards,fake rubber stamps of various state transport authorities such as Delhi,Ambala,Gurgaon,Agra and Kanpur,three hologram stickers,one laptop,a scanner-cum-printer and a cutter machine were recovered from him,police said.

Police are on the lookout for the other associates and investigation in the case is underway.
