A 28-year-old pizza delivery man was arrested for allegedly trying to extort Rs 1 crore from a Sector-56 resident.

Police said the man, Amit Yadav, borrowed the idea from a Bollywood film to become rich quickly. He was produced at a city court on Wednesday and sent to 14-days judicial custody.

Police said the woman had given the pizza outlet her number when she had called to place an order for home delivery. Yadav, resident of Badshahpur, picked up her number and began to message her on it.

In fact, police said, the woman had alleged that Yadav had been sending her obscene messages since February. The woman alleged that Yadav even called her and threatened to kidnap her child if she did not give him Rs 1 crore, police said.

According to police, the woman complained to the Gurgaon Police Commissioner.

Investigating official Jagdish Kumar said, “He often called her and threatened to kidnap her child if she did not give him Rs 1crore.”

On Tuesday, Yadav called the woman and asked to deliver the money at Badarpur, Delhi. The woman then went to police and alerted them. “We had put his mobile number on surveillance and tracked his mobile number. He was at his residence at the time of arrest,” Kumar said.
