A 28-year-old pregnant woman died after she was hit by a white Honda City at a parking lot near Noida Sector 18 market late Sunday night, police said. The victim, Mansi Singhal, was walking with her husband a few metres from a police chowki when the incident took place, police said, adding, “The six-month pregnant woman sustained severe injuries and was declared dead at a private hospital.”
Police said the incident took place around 8.45 pm on Sunday. “The couple had come out to shop and were walking towards the market when the car hit them. The car was being driven by a parking attendant who had just taken the vehicle out of the parking lot and was taking it to the owner,” said Shwetamber Pandey, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Gautam Buddh Nagar police.
An FIR in the case has been registered at Noida Sector 20 police station against the driver under IPC sections 304 A (causing death due to negligence), 279 (rash driving) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), police said.
Police said the victim’s husband, Prateek, who works for a media firm, also sustained injuries. The couple stayed at Noida Sector 75.
An official at Kailash Hospital said, “The woman had come to the hospital in a very serious condition. We tried to revive her but a tyre had ran over her abdomen. Due to excessive bleeding, we could not save her.”
On Monday evening, police said Prateek has been discharged from the hospital. “He had sustained some injuries and was rushed to Kailash Hospital as well. He has been discharged. His wife’s body was sent for post-mortem examination and has been handed over to the family. She suffered multiple fractures,” Pandey said.
Meanwhile, police have apprehended the errant driver “The car was being driven rashly. The accused person’s family has claimed that he is below 18 years of age. We have asked them to provide documents to prove his age but they have not been able to do so till now,” Pandey said.
