Parking attendant runs car over pregnant woman in Noida

A 28-YEAR-OLD pregnant woman died after she was run over by a white Honda City at a parking lot near Noida’s Sector 18 market late Sunday. The victim, identified as Mansi Singhal, was walking with her husband near a police chowki when the incident took place, police said. “The six-month pregnant woman sustained severe injuries and was declared brought dead on arrival at a private hospital,” said a police officer. Police said the incident took place around 8.45 pm. “The couple were walking towards the market when the car hit them. The car was being driven by a parking attendant. He had just taken the car out of the parking lot and was taking it to the owner,” said Shwetamber Pandey, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Gautam Buddh Nagar Police.

An FIR has been registered at Noida Sector 20 police station against the driver under sections 304 A (causing death due to negligence), 279 (rash driving) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the IPC. Police said the victim’s husband, Prateek, who works for a media firm, also sustained injuries. The couple stayed at Noida’s Sector 75.

“The husband had sustained some injuries and was also taken to Kailash Hospital. He has been discharged. His wife’s body was sent for postmortem examination and later handed over to the family. She suffered multiple fractures….,” the SP said.

Meanwhile, police have apprehended the parking attendant. “The car was being driven rashly. The accused person’s family has claimed that he is a minor. We have asked them to provide documents to prove his age but they have not been able to do so till now,” he added.
