The Noida Authority on Tuesday began the process of sending out formal notices to banks and other commercial institutions in Noida to vacate their residential plots before February 4.

This is the first instance of any formal intimation from the Noida Authority on the issue, following a December 3 order from the Supreme Court asking all commercial institutions running from residential plots to stop work and vacate within two months. They were found to be violating clauses of land use by the apex court.

The decision to send out notices came after a meeting of all project engineers in the Noida area on Tuesday morning. “We don’t want to use force and are in talks with banks to convince them to move out,” a senior official said.

Officials said that they were also looking at changing the clause of mixed land use,so banks can use some other residential plots in sectors where they are currently located, but said that the process will require deliberation as it requires changes in the Noida Master Plan. “Until then,we have to ask the banks and other institutions to move to honour the court order,” an official said.

Representatives of the 128 bank branches, however, have submitted petitions before the Supreme Court to try and increase the two-month period given to them.
