Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday said JNU students’ union president Kanhaiya Kumar was more of a “patriot” than “those making sedition allegations against him”.
The CM said Kanhaiya raised very good questions on “freedom from poverty and capitalism and got it right when he said there was need to get freedom in the country, not from the country”. Praising Kanhaiya’s speech after his release from jail, the Bihar CM said “it was a powerful speech”.
Talking to media upon his return from Nepal, Nitish said, “I am very happy at the release of Kanhaiya. Facts were misrepresented and Kanhaiya was framed. He is more patriot than those making sedition allegations against him. He delivered a very powerful speech. His take on freedom in the country, rather than from the country was very effective”.
The JD (U) has been backing the JNUSU president since his arrest on charges of sedition.
Congratulating Kanhaiya on his speech, Nitish said, “He has been talking about freedom from poverty, intolerance and capitalism. Such a student leader can only strengthen democracy and JNU has been known for voicing concerns of the country. (The) New generation has been full of expectations and is very understanding. The NDA government at the Centre has hardly done anything to address issues of youth.”
Congratulating Left leaders, Nitish added, “Kanhaiya is a talented student leader and I also congratulate Communist leaders.”
