The newly renovated Kashmere Gate ISBT is set to be inaugurated on May 2. On Monday,Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit,Transport Minister Ramakant Goswami,Chief Secretary and other government officials inspected the ISBT.

Goswami said a few shortcomings were noted and these will be fixed before the inauguration.

The Chief Secretary had visited the ISBT earlier this month as well and had ordered a traffic study of the area around it.

“We want to ensure that everything is in place before the inauguration on May 2. Some shortcomings were noticed and will be taken care of. These include improving traffic circulation of the area, providing proper drinking water, carrying out landscaping and also improving the waiting area in ISBT,’’ Goswami said.

Traffic from the Ring Road, the ISBT flyover,Mahatma Gandhi Road and surrounding areas converges in front of the ISBT.

According to government officials, the food court on the premises of the ISBT will be open 24×7 and will be modeled like food courts in malls. The existing foot-overbridge from Outer Ring Road will be extended till the ISBT to provide a direct link to the food court.

“The food court will provide a variety in terms of cuisine. We plan to extend the FOB on the Outer Ring Road till the food court to ensure direct access to people living in adjoining areas,’’ an official said.

The facelift was carried out by Delhi Integrated Multi Modal Transit (DIMTS) after a part of the ISBT was shut in July 2011.

“The arrival and departure bays have been redesigned to make them passenger-friendly. The bus circulation plan and ticket counters have been improved with inquiry booths for better passenger experience. The renovated bus terminal will have an air-conditioned waiting lounge, including glass elevators and escalators. The terminal has a Public Information System to display the bus information and building management control system,” a DIMTS official said.

To ensure proper maintenance of the building,a tender will be floated soon.

“We have prepared the tender document. Once it gets government clearance,we will float it so that proper maintenance can be carried out of the building,’’ a Transport official said.

At present,Delhi Metro is also carrying out work at Kashmere Gate, and once the land is handed back to Transport,a proper parking area will be constructed and landscaping will be carried out.
