Seven Aam Aadmi Party MLAs,including Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, were sworn in to the Delhi Cabinet at Ramlila Maidan on Saturday afternoon, amid cheers and applause by a huge crowd. Family members of the new ministers joined the crowd as they erupted in celebration.

While the Cabinet ministers accompanied Arvind Kejriwal from his house to the Ramlila Maidan, their families were already with the aam aadmi, waiting for the ceremony to begin. “We had reached Ramlila Maidan around 11 am. Finding a place in front of an LCD screen,we sat with the people,” Sanjay Jain,Satyendra’s younger brother, said. Jain’s father, wife and cousins were also at the venue.

Poonam Jain,Satyendra’s wife, said her family was preparing to support the Health and Industries Minister. “We know that he will have less time for us but are ready to support him at every step. Everyone feels like a part of this government. It is a turning point….”

The youngest minister in the new Cabinet,Rakhi Birla (26),was joined by her entire family for the ceremony. The youngest among four siblings,Rakhi was a journalist covering the India Against Corruption movement when she decided to quit her job and join Aam Aadmi Party, her brother Vikram said.

“The people of Delhi feel connected with Rakhi. She has always been working for the people. It is a moment of immense happiness for us that she has been given such a responsibility by the people,” he said.

For some, however, the turn of events is still not sinking in. “I had never thought that he would be a Cabinet Minister. I did feel that he will be involved in societal welfare but the sight of him taking oath as a minister is overwhelming,” Gaurav, brother of Transport Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj, said.
