For Tuesdays fixture against Tarun Sangha, defending champions ND Heroes were coming from a defeat, not quite shocking,to Indian Nationals. But the 2-1 verdict in Nationals favour had left them in the same mire along with Hindustan FC,Sangha and Ahbab FC: with must-win matches against the better sides of the draw.
Their opponents, behind the pack by three points and already termed the dark horses this season, were expected to force the issue too. For a considerable duration,Sangha looked like pulling one back but the 69th minute when Heroes doubled their one-goal cushion through a curling corner kick from Marlangki Suting without any deflection shifted the balance in favour of the city giants.
Sangha,on the other hand proved a mismatch, with Henry and skipper Arup Sarkars absence due to a hamstring injury and double-yellow cards, respectively and the listless play by Mokhtar. Suvash Santra, walking off after picking up two yellow cards summed up their sorry exit further. Earlier,Indian Nationals blanked beat Shahadra FC 3-1 to go atop the table.
