As Delhi eagerly waited for winners and losers of Saturday’s vote, Kiran Bedi went to her constituency Krishna Nagar on Monday for a “gratitude meeting” with local legend Dr Harsh Vardhan and told workers “that there is a lot of difference between a mother’s heart and a doctor’s”.
“A doctor can prescribe medicines, but now you will get a mother’s heart… A mother can heal,” she said. Bedi said she felt “very hurt” about the dirt in Krishna Nagar and would begin by starting a “Swachh Krishna Nagar Abhiyan” to make it “like South and New Delhi”.
“The parks, lanes and drains have to be cleaned. A mother’s heart bleeds to see that children do not have a park to play in,” Bedi said.
She said she conducted the “abhaar sabha” a day before the counting because “I wanted to thank volunteers irrespective of the results”.
Explaining her absence from the constituency in the evenings during campaigning, she said she “blindly followed instructions of the head office. “I went wherever any MP or MLA put me…I withstood everything, that is why I got a sore throat,” she said.
Harsh Vardhan told the gathering that he “hoped the people will shower on Bedi the same love and blessings they have on me”. Bedi distributed pamphlets to volunteers with sections on their contribution to the 2015 polls and said Krishna Nagar is “my home and my responsibility”.
