The sub-committee on Promotion of Urdu Language and Enhancement of Compatibility amongst Minorities through knowledge of English,appointed by National Monitoring Committee for Minorities Education,on Thursday submitted a report recommending setting up of a monitoring committee of experts to ensure promotion of Urdu.
The report,submitted to HRD Minister M M Pallam Raju,states,This (the committee) should comprise principals of Urdu-medium schools and Urdu teachers from Delhi University,Aligarh Muslim University,Maulana Azad National Urdu University,Jamia Millia Islamia,JNU… to review the ground realities.
The committee has also recommended developing a database of institutions responsible for training Urdu teachers.
Under current norms,a minimum of 20 students have to opt for the language for a school to offer the course.
The panel recommended that Section 122 of the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan be amended to bring down the number to five or six students as is being done in UP and Delhi respectively.
