Delhi-based riff outfit,Barefaced Liar (BFL) has flourished since it was started in 2002 by high-school students Akshay Chowdhry and Sumant Balakrishnan. With a line-up including bassist Akshay Johar and drummer Suyash Gabriel, the band is set to release its second album, tentatively titled Mind Over Matter, after one of the tracks in the album. “We hope to release the album within the first couple of weeks in October with a big bang, maybe at Blue Frog or Hard Rock Cafe. We’re still finishing the tracking,” says Johar.

While the new album will stay true to its riff roots, this time around, the music is more diversified,in terms of both songwriting and tonality, according to Johar, who says,“Some of the tracks have inputs from Abhimanyu Pratap, who plays the keyboard for our live acts, and his contributions have added a whole new dimension to our sound.”

Johar himself, who also produces music under the moniker MojoJojo, has used some electronica in the album, which will add more layers to the soundscape. John Lennon meets Jimi Hendrix meets Steve Wilson?
