Medical team examines children at Arya Orphanage

Days after the chief warden and two other staff of Arya Anathalay were arrested in sexual assault cases,a team of doctors conducted a medical examination of 20 children from the orphanage in Daryanaganj. This includes the three boys who were allegedly sodomised,but the intial findings did not reveal anything adverse,police said.

On Friday,police had conducted medical examination of three other boys,also alleged victims. D C Srivastava,Additional Commissioner of Police (Central),said,“A total of six children,who were assaulted,have been examined by doctors on Friday and Tuesday. The final report is yet to be filed.”

The orphanage has been in news following allegations that some of the children were sodomised and a minor girl was raped inside the premises.

P P Dhall,who has been appointed the administrator of the orphanage by the Delhi government,said,“Today it was possible to conduct the examination of only 20 children. In the next few days,we will complete the examination of all the children.”

Meanwhile,rattled by the allegations,the government has appointed 10 welfare officers for counselling. A former chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee has also been appointed to assist the adminstrator.

In a related development,police formally detained the 14-year-old boy in the sodomy case of a 12-year-old boy. The accused minor was already in official custody in connection with the rape of a minor a girl inside the orphanage.
