A tempo driver, convicted of raping his neighbour’s school-going daughter repeatedly for over a month and getting her pregnant, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a city court.

According to the prosecution’s case,Pappu Singh, who used to drop children to school in his tempo, repeatedly raped the 15-year-old girl in his home before dropping her to school every morning. He also threatened to kill her if she told anyone about it.

The prosecution said the girl was dropped off at Singh’s house every morning and had to board the tempo from there.

The girl’s mother came to know about the crime three months later, when she found out that her daughter was pregnant. The girl’s parents lodged an FIR in August 2012.

The girl was then admitted to Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospital, where she had an abortion, the prosecution said.

Additional Sessions Judge Virender Bhat sentenced Pappu Singh to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the basis of the girl’s testimony and the DNA fingerprinting of the aborted foetus.

“It is evident from the record that the convict, despite being father of an eight-year-old girl, made the prosecutrix,a minor school-going girl,a prey of his sexual lust. He did not do so on a single occasion but continued to ravish the prosecutrix daily in the mornings for a period of time,as a result of which she had also become pregnant,” the court observed.

However,Singh told the court that he had been falsely implicated by the girl as he had opposed a relationship between her and his brother-in-law. The court however dismissed his plea.

“Considering the testimony of prosecutrix, which stands corroborated by the testimony of her mother as well as scientific evidence in the nature of DNA fingerprinting report coupled with the false alibi raised by the accused,I am of the opinion that the prosecutrix has been successful in proving the charges against the accused,” the court held.
