A 15-year-old girl who was lured to Delhi from Assam was raped for eight months by a man who promised her a job in the Capital.

Amrita (name changed) came to the city with her mother and younger sister after Raju Ahmed,a native of her village, told her he could get her a good job in Delhi, the police said. He raped her and “offered” her to other men for money. The girl recently approached the police with her complaint and an FIR has been registered. Ahmed was arrested on Friday evening. A city court has now sent him to police custody to probe a possible human trafficking angle. The police said after the death of her father in Mori Ganv in Assam,Amrita’s family was finding it difficult to make ends meet. It was then that Ahmed met her.

“The girl trusted him and convinced her mother and sister to accompany them to Delhi. Ahmed brought her to the Capital in July last year and kept her confined in his house in Janakpuri in West Delhi,” a senior police officer said.

“There he allegedly raped her for eight months and even took her to different places where others raped her. We suspect he forced her into prostitution,” the officer said. In Delhi,Ahmed arranged her mother and sister’s stay in a different house. He told them that Amrita had to stay separately as she was working as a domestic help.

Later,he shifted to Padam Nagar in North Delhi, the police said. Amrita recognised this area as she had visited some relatives living in the nearby Timarpur area. She escaped from Ahmed’s clutches to her relatives’ house. They took her to an NGO,from where she was taken to the Timarpur police station. After medical examination at a local hospital confirmed rape, the police arrested the accused from his residence and moved a city court for police custody.

The girl has been taken to Nari Niketan. Her mother and sister could not be traced. Ahmed is being questioned about their whereabouts.

The police said prima facie it looks as if the accused frequently trafficked young women from his village in Assam on the pretext of giving them jobs.

Once in the Capital,he would rape them and also “supply” them to other places.
