The sweltering heat most often marks the onset of a lull in art activities in the Capital. While some artists and gallerists have already headed to the international shores — where a series of art fairs are scheduled in the coming months —

Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna decided to wrap up the season with an art exhibition at Palette Art Gallery last week. Titled “2 + 2 = 5”,the show comprises works of over 25 artists.

Explaining the thought process behind the exhibition, the gallerists explain,“The show represents how,in life,we are the sum of all things; a multitude of experiences mould us into a whole. They mould our personalities, determine our behaviour and dictate our lives.”

An attempt has been made to examine the “working of an artist’s mind”. If Gigi Scaria questions the status of the pre-existing knowledge system in the new order in his watercolour and automobile paint on paper,Sonia Mehra Chawla reflects on the genesis of life. In her work that comprises a series of small canvases, she uses the seed as a symbol of the “vitality of life”. Chintan Upadhyay has put together 400 cars cast in fibreglass. “It talks about layers and also gives an idea of lapse between the contemporary and traditional. Taking it on the aesthetic level, space is getting constrained and desires are occupying more and more space. This is creating credible gaps in our culture and needs to be amended,” notes Upadhyay.

The exhibition at Palette Art Gallery,14,Golf Links,is on till June 7
