Baljeet Singh Sehrawat, the lawyer who was arrested on Tuesday on the charge of being part of the conspiracy to kill Deepak Bhardwaj reportedly told police that he recorded phone conversations between him and Nitesh so that he could blackmail Bhardwaj’s younger son in case he backed out.

Sources said whenever Nitesh told Sehrawat about his plan to kill his father,Sehrawat would record the conversation.

Sources said Sehrawat had recorded the conversation in which Nitesh reportedly agreed to pay Sehrawat Rs 5 crore for executing the murder plan. Nitesh, sources said, was not aware of this.

Sources said when he came to know that Nitesh had problems with his father,Sehrawat began passing on information to Nitesh.

It was through Sehrawat that the estranged family members found out what Bhardwaj was up to. Sources said they also sought Sehrawat’s help to file as many cases as possible against Bhardwaj so that Bhardwaj would stop “torturing” them. Bhardwaj,in turn, filed a cheating case against his wife.

Sources said Sehrawat was playing both sides against each other and that there was a possibility that Bhardwaj knew he was going to be killed. “In a conversation with Nitesh,a few months before the incident,Bhardwaj asked him if he was going to kill him?” a source told Newsline.

Sources said when Bhardwaj returned from Haridwar in February,he increased the number of guards at his farmhouse from 23 to 40.

He also got some of the CCTV cameras, which were defunct, repaired after his return.

Sources said Bhardwaj, after getting a whiff that something brewing in the family, refrained from leaving his farmhouse and kept to himself. Meetings were either cancelled or held in his farmhouse.

Sehrawat,a lawyer by profession, became a property dealer after he joined Bhardwaj, police said. He assisted Bhardwaj in land dealings, which were mired in disputes. He shifted to a flat in Vasant Kunj which is now worth Rs 2 crore.

Sources said it was Sehrawat who assisted Nitesh in getting a divorce from his first wife. “Sehrawat became greedy. Though he had made enough money by helping Bhardwaj,he wanted more. Hence,he decided to help Nitesh kill his father,” the source said.

Sources said subsequent to the incident,Nitesh destroyed his phone. He then went to the Dwarka school where he destroyed the CCTV footage in which Swami Pratibhanand was seen walking around the school premises. Nitesh, sources said, visited a lawyer and paid him Rs 10 lakh and confessed before him that he had killed his father. It was this lawyer who approached the police and gave them the information about the killing, sources said.
