A labourer was killed and 11 others injured after the scaffolding of an under-construction banquet hall collapsed Monday morning in northwest Delhi’s Bharat Nagar area.
The incident happened around 7.20 am when 12 labourers were working after climbing on the scaffolding, said a senior police officer.
The beams holding the scaffolding went off-balance causing the temporary structure to fall and injuring the labourers who were standing on the structure, added the officer.
One of the labourers, Gaur Mandal (48) sustained severe head injuries and was declared brought dead by the doctors at the hospital.
10 labourers escaped with minor injuries while one of the injured persons is currently admitted to trauma centre with head injuries.
The police is currently investigating the ownership details of the under-construction building.
“We have asked for the ownership documents and are also investigating whether there were any legal documents signed between the contractor and the owner. After getting these details, we will be registering an FIR,” said a senior police officer.
