Even as the city bid adieu to Goddess Durga and set fire to Raavana, the symbol of evil,Mahishasura was welcomed back into Jawarharlal University,as the All India Backward Students’ Forum (AIBSF) organised the ‘Mahishasur’s Martyrdom Day’ on campus.

The public meeting was attended by more than 350 participants from within and outside the campus.

The university, which is known for its worship and exaltation of the mythological demon, had stirred controversy two years ago with AIBSF issuing notices opposing Durga Puja on campus.

Now,two years later,AIBSF President Jitendra Kumar Yadav organised the same event on campus, hailing Mahishasura as a powerful ruler who led the working class, even as ABVP slammed the programme as “anti-Hindu”.
