Infant killed,30 injured in expressway accident

An infant was killed and 30 persons received minor injuries after the bus they were travelling in crashed into the central verge of the Yamuna Expressway in the early hours of Monday.

An infant was killed and 30 persons received minor injuries after the bus they were travelling in crashed into the central verge of the Yamuna Expressway in the early hours of Monday. Senior police officers said most passengers on the bus suffered minor injuries,and were out of danger,but an 8-month-old girl was declared dead on arrival at Kailash Hospital in Greater Noida.

Officials of Jaypee,the operators of the Yamuna Expressway said the incident took place around 4 am,on the carriageway that leads to Greater Noida from Agra. “The bus was travelling from Mainpuri to Pari Chowk in Greater Noida. The accident took place 41.8 km away from zero point. The driver lost control of the bus and collided into the central verge which resulted in the vehicle turning turtle,” AK Zaidi,a senior Jaypee official,said.

Senior police officers said prima facie,it seemed that the driver fell asleep while at the wheel.
