Investigations into the death of Inspector Badrish Dutt, posted with Delhi Police Special Cell, and his live-in partner Geeta Sharma have revealed that the police officer was upset with his partner and had been avoiding her since she was arrested in April by the anti-extortion cell.

At the time of her arrest, police suspected that Sharma, who ran a detective agency in Saket, was trying to get call detail records of several police officers.

According to police,Dutt helped her get the call detail records of certain senior officers as he was a specialist in phone interceptions.

When police had raided Sharma’s house in Ardee City,Gurgaon,Dutt was found in her bedroom. The Crime Branch, which had conducted the raid, reported this to the Special Cell and the Police Commissioner.

Later,Dutt was questioned by the Crime Branch, but he did not seem to be involved.

Police sources said the Crime Branch had submitted a written report to the Police Commissioner about Dutt and Sharma. After this,Dutt started to distance himself from Sharma, police said.

After she was arrested and sent to Tihar Jail for 21-day judicial custody,Sharma mentioned in her diary that she was disappointed that “B” hadn’t visited her. Police sources said ‘B’ referred to Badrish.

Police said Dutt had filed for divorce with his wife Ruchi and his relationship with Sharma was not smooth either. This, police said, took a toll on him.

The post-mortem report on the deaths of Dutt and Sharma pointed out that the police officer shot Sharma and then trained the gun on himself.

A week before the incident,Dutt told a colleague that he was thinking of moving out of Special Cell, where he had spent 13 years.
