The Delhi High Court summoned the deputy commissioner of Central Zone of the South Municipal Corporation to appear personally and file a status report on the action taken to demolish unauthorised structures in Jamia Nagar, after noting that only “piecemeal” action had been taken on the issue.

The court of Justice Manmohan also observed that the civic body did not seem to appreciate the “seriousness of the situation” despite the fact that the court was monitoring the issue and nine separate writ petitions were being heard on the matter.

The court issued the directions after it was informed that even though Delhi Police had provided personnel to the civic body to demolish the buildings, it had not done so.

The court has directed the civic agency to complete the demolition work before the next date of hearing on December 17.     ENS
