Two days after a student of an institute affiliated with the Delhi University was allegedly sodomised in Ghaziabad, police said a manhunt had been launched against the accused.

The 24-year-old victim was allegedly abducted, tortured and sodomised at a village in Ghaziabad on Tuesday. Senior police officers said the accused, from Tila Gaon in Ghaziabad, also stripped the victim and posted photographs of injuries on a social networking site.

Investigations have revealed that the accused believed that the victim was in a relationship with his daughter. Along with his aides, the accused assaulted the student to “teach him a lesson”.

Ghaziabad SSP Nitin Tiwari said,“We have formed a team and manhunt has been launched for the culprit, who is at large after the incident. An FIR has been lodged.”

Senior officers said the victim had approached the police “for permission to commit suicide”.

“The victim had met daughter of the accused in the university and became friends with her. When the girl’s family found out,her father threatened him. After that, the victim began to avoid the girl. This was a few months ago,” an officer said.

However,a few days ago,the girl began receiving obscene calls, which the girl’s father presumed were made by the victim.

The victim had told police,“A group of men began thrashing me and then tortured me. I told them that I had not made any obscene calls, but they wouldn’t listen. They took me home on Tuesday morning and threatened me with dire consequences.”
