A senior inspector with the Ghaziabad police was caught on camera slapping an allegedly inebriated woman in the Sahibabad,Ghaziabad,on Tuesday night.
Police said the woman was found in a compromising position with a man by residents of Vikram Enclave. The residents informed police. According to police,the woman and her friend misbehaved with both residents and policemen who went to the spot. Police said the two continued to misbehave at police station.
Two separate FIRs have been registered against the woman and her friend.
The woman,on the other hand,told mediapersons that she reacted after a policeman and a resident slapped her.
They told me how could I dare drink with a man at night? Is drinking a crime? All these charges are fabricated. The police didnt even have the courtesy of letting me make a phone call, she said.
There has been no action against any police personnel,with senior officers saying that an inquiry is in progress.
A senior police officer said: The two were in a Honda City,which had Delhi numberplate,in a compromising position. It was around 9 pm. Both of them are residents of Delhi. When residents objected,they reportedly misbehaved with them and even attacked a few residents. Police were called by the residents of the colony. Based on the complaint of Bablu,from Vikram Enclave,a case under IPC Sections 294 (obscene acts and songs),160(punishment for committing affray),504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) has been registered against the two at the Sahibabad police station.
The video footage of TV news crew shows the woman and the residents attacking each other as policemen stand there.
Nitin Tiwari,Senior Superintendent of Police,said,After the call was made to police,personnel rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control. Instead of cooperating,the accused slapped one of the constables thrice. She also assaulted a resident. She misbehaved and used abusive language with the policemen at the chowki after she was taken there. A medical report has confirmed the presence of alcohol in both the accused.
Arvind Yadav,Deputy Superintendent of Police,said,We have begun an enquiry and if personnel are found guilty,they will be severely reprimanded.
The complainant in the second FIR was the policeman who was caught on camera slapping the woman.
The two were produced before the court and let off on bail.
