The Crime Branch of the Delhi Police on Wednesday arrested three members of a gang of pickpockets and recovered 68 high-end mobile phones from them.
The gang members,hailing from Jharkhand,were active on Metro trains,police said.
According to police,the gangsters used to steal high-end mobile phones from commuters on Metro trains and people in crowded places.
They were arrested after police received information that they will leave for Jharkhand from Anand Vihar railway station on Wednesday.
Around 9.30 am,the gang members were overpowered by a police team. As many as 68 high-end mobile phones of various brands were were recovered from their possession. The arrested accused have been identified as Gautam (19),Vikram (20) and Babloo (26), Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav said.
During questioning,the accused told police that they belong to Jharkhand and used to come to Delhi to carry out the thefts. Police said the gang had taken a house on rent in city from where they co-ordinated their operations.
Some of the members travelled on Metro trains and stole phones from unsuspecting commuters. A few of the members visited crowded market places and pick-pocketed phones from there. Once 50-100 mobile phones were stolen in this manner,they used to take the consignment to Jharkhand and dispose them. Efforts are on to arrest their accomplices in Jharkhand, Yadav said.
