A major fire broke out in a T-shirt manufacturing factory in East Delhi’s Gandhi Nagar area on Sunday afternoon. Though the cause of fire could not be ascertained, police suspect it was triggered due to a short circuit in the building.

According to police, the four storey factory-cum-godown located in Gandhi Nagar belonged to Jagdish Chandra Suneja.

“The factory manufactured T-shirts of a well-known brand. At least 26 fire tenders were sent to douse the flames. The lanes and by-lanes leading to the building were quite narrow and, hence,it took time to control the fire. The flames were doused only by 6 pm,” a police officer said. Though the total cost of the damage is yet to be ascertained,a police officer said T-shirts worth lakhs of rupees were gutted in the fire.
