Im really lucky. I wake up in the morning, make people laugh and go to sleep, says stand-up comedian Aditi Mittal. While the business of comedy is booming, not many women have taken centrestage. A year-and-a-half ago, when I returned after studying theatre in the US,stand-up comedy was just taking off in India. I attended an open mic nite and decided to give it a shot. At most, the crowd would have hated me, she says. But they did not,and Mittal instead decided to make a career out of comedy. Now a part of The Cardinal Bengans group by Vir Dass comedy company,Weirdass Comedy,Mittal feels its the first 30 seconds of an act that matter the most. Thats when the audience decides if they are going to watch you or not, she says. There have been times when she has been booed at,but she remains unfazed.
