Two days after assailants barged into the house of a freelance journalist in East Delhis Mayur Vihar area,strangled her,robbed the house and abducted her four-year-old son,police on Monday rescued the child from Haridwar and arrested two men in connection with the incident.
Four-year-old Bishu (in picture) was rescued from his abductors following an encounter with a joint team of the Uttarakhand and Delhi Police on Monday evening.
Police identified the arrested men as Vijay and Sachin,and alleged both were employees at Imans (husband of the deceased,Mohi) saree shop.
The accused had allegedly demanded Rs 50 lakh in ransom from Iman for the safe release of the child,police claimed.
Police said they intercepted the abductors as they were planning to move the child from their hideout. Police had been trailing them through call records.
In the encounter which subsequently took place,a Delhi Police officer and an officer from the Uttarakhand Police were injured after one of the accused attacked them in a bid to escape.
The accused were,however,overpowered and the child was brought back late Monday night. Police will now interrogate the accused to ascertain the motive behind the crime.
Haridwar SSP Rajiv Swaroop said police chased the criminals in the Vairagi camp area. One Delhi Police sub-inspector and an officer from Haridwar Polices Special Operation Group were injured in the incident. The criminals stabbed one policeman in his shoulder, Swaroop said over phone.
The Delhi Police team arrived in Haridwar on Monday. They had already traced the location of the criminals in the city through electronic surveillance. The criminals had contacted the childs family demanding ransom money, a police officer said. The arrested men belong to UPs Bijnore district,he added.
On Saturday,the abductors had reached Mohi’s house on a motorcycle around noon.
