A 44-year-old man was arrested by the Ghaziabad police on Wednesday on the charge of killing his 24-year-old daughter.

Police said he suspected that she had an extra-marital affair in the Bhojpur area of Modinagar.

A police officer said Sansar Singh reportedly smothered Deepa to death on Saturday morning, and threw her body in the Gang Nahar in the Masuri area of Ghaziabad.

The body was recovered on Monday.

The officer said,“Deepa had been married for the past six years but had been living with her parents for over a year, because of frequent fights with her husband. Sansar Singh believed that she was having an extra-marital affair, and has confessed that he felt humiliated because of the same. A case of murder and destruction of evidence has been lodged against him.”

Officers said Sansar smothered his daughter to death and hid her body in a tractor around 3 am on Saturday.

“He smothered her while she was sleeping, and then took her body to his tractor, where he hid the body under sugarcane bags. In the morning,he took the body to the Gang Nahar near the Didauli flyover, and threw it in,” a senior officer said.
