A general body meeting of East Municipal Corporation was disrupted on Monday when its Mayor was heard in the microphone saying a councillor had “lost his mind”.

Mayor Annapurna Mishra used the term for Congress councillor Bansi Lal for repeatedly changing his seat.

Lal first left his chair to sit in the media section, then he went to the pedestal and finally to the area designated for the ruling party members. Even as other councillors raised objection and the Mayor told him to return to his seat,Lal refused to go back.

Mayor was heard saying in the microphone,“Inka dimag kharab hai,yeh har baar aisa hi karte hain (He has lost his mind,he does this often).” The Congress members stalled the meeting in protest and demanded an unconditional apology from the Mayor. When the Mayor walked out, without rendering an apology, the councillors threatened that no routine meetings will be allowed to be convened till she apologises.

“Usage of such unconstitutional language in the general body meeting is unpardonable,” said Varyum Kaur,Leader of the Opposition.

Annapurna Mishra said: “I don’t think that I used such a word at the meeting. Even if I did by mistake,I apologise. But Bansi Lal should maintain the decorum of the House.”

Bansi Lal said,“I am not mad. Mayor can get it checked from the doctor.”
