E-rickshaw driver set ablaze in Ghaziabad

A 23-year-old e-rickshaw driver sustained fifty per cent burn injuries after he was set ablaze by a commuter in Link Road area of Ghaziabad on Tuesday afternoon. While the victim is undergoing treatment at GTB Hospital in Delhi, the police have arrested one accused in the case.

Police said the incident took place on Tuesday afternoon, when 23-year-old Umesh, a resident of Brij Vihar in Ghaziabad, was driving his e-rickshaw in Link Road area.

“Three men were sitting at the back of the e-rickshaw. One of them, Pawan, doused petrol on Umesh and set him ablaze. Pawan has been arrested and we are identifying the role of the other two passengers,” said Salmantaj Patil, SP (City), Ghaziabad. “Umesh has sustained 50 per cent burn injuries and he has been referred to GTB Hospital. His condition is stable,” he added.

The police further maintained that a resident ensured he didn’t die, police said.
