A Delhi University (DU) aspirant allegedly jumped off the first floor of Kalindi College building on Tuesday afternoon. Police, however, said they were still verifying if she had slipped or intentionally jumped. Her condition is said to be stable.
The 18-year-old student accompanied by her father had gone to the college to apply for admission under the OBC category within the Extra Curricular Activities (ECA) quota, police sources said.
Around 4 pm, however, students and staff reportedly heard a scream. They saw that a woman was lying on the ground. She was rushed to Lady Harding Hospital where she was administered emergency treatment.
“Her condition is said to be stable and she is undergoing tests. We have not yet taken her statement, though we have taken her father’s statement. We have not been able to establish if the girl jumped or slipped from the first floor,” DCP (Central) Paramaditya said.
The college authorities submitted a complaint to police about the incident as well as the interaction the girl had had with the college authorities before the incident. College Principal Anula Maurya told PTI, “The girl and her father had approached the college for admission under the OBC quota, though they did not possess required certificates for the same. When they were asked to arrange for the documents, they shouted at me as well as the admission in-charge. The girl’s father even humiliated a teacher.” She also said the college had reported the matter to police.
“We will be recording both the college authorities’ statement as well as the girl’s statement after which appropriate action will be taken,” Paramaditya said.
