A 42-year-old widow and a distant relative of hers were murdered in west Delhi’s Ranhola Saturday, said police. While the body of the woman, Sunita, was found inside her room, a neighbour found Rajesh (45), lying in a pool of blood on the terrace, said police.
The murderer was probably an acquaintance of the victims as there was no sign of forced entry, said Joint Commissioner of Police (southwestern range) Deependra Pathak.
“A case of murder has been registered… we are following up on some leads and will soon make an arrest,” said Pathak. Both victims had died of head injuries, said police.
Rajesh’s body was found by Sachdeva, one of the tenants of the residential building where Sunita lived, on Saturday morning. “I saw Rajesh lying in a pool of blood. I immediately rushed downstairs and informed other neighbours. Somebody called the police control room. By the time police reached the spot, we got to know that Sunita had been found dead inside her house on the first floor,” said Sachdeva.
Police have questioned the victims’ family members and are trying to find out if they had any visitors Friday night. They have also collected footage from CCTV cameras in the area.
